23. Before the Good News
Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her seed;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
This Scripture is sometimes referred to as the proto-evangel. The good news before The Good News. Things had certainly gotten messy in the Garden. The Lord has placed Adam and Eve in the paradise of Eden. Then the serpent arrived and deceived Eve and she did what God had prohibited. Adam fell and sinned by eating the fruit as well. They tried to cover themselves and hid from God. God eventually arrives and can’t find Adam. Adam explains why he was hiding and God confronts Adam with his sin. The blame game ensues and finally when there is no one else to drag into this mess God brings forth His holy judgments and curses.
Chapter 3 verse 15 is the curse upon the serpent. Over the centuries many have seen in it the promise of one who would come and defeat the serpent. Ultimately that would be Jesus Christ.
