A Devotion from Pastor Dennis
Each Wednesday will be dedicated to WWW…Wednesday’s With the Word
It is good to read what Godly men and women write to be encouraged in our faith. Not all of us have the insight of a Charles Swindoll or the technical grasp of John MacArthur. But we all do have a few things that our favorite Bible teachers have. Assuming that they are genuine believers; we have the same Bible they have. We have the same Holy Spirit they have. We have the same Father they have. And we have the same Savior they have.
Each Wednesday this post will have some tidbit for you to put into your “box of skills” when it comes to knowing and understanding your Bible. To put it another way, these posts are designed to help you be a self-feeder. So pick up your Bible and let’s begin.
*** ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS do this step. NEVER EVER skip it. ***
Pray: you knew I was going to say that didn’t you? But here is the thing. When you pray ask God through the Holy Spirit to give you knowledge and understanding of the Bible.
2 Peter 1.20-21 reads, “But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.”
The Holy Spirit Authored the Bible and He used authors to do it. The big A Author is God the Holy Spirit. The little a author were men that the Holy Spirit moved along to write the very Word of God. So when you open it to read and understand and study specifically ask God to give you understanding of what you are reading. Ask Him to guide you to grasp what He meant when He wrote it. Ask Him to make sense of the things you don’t understand.
ALWAYS pray first.
