(this link is for the historical origins of “I heard the Bells on Christmas day)
(it will take a bit longer to read but I found it inspiring and comforting)
Luke 2:13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
When we think about the coming of Jesus as a baby. One of the repeated and wonderfully significant characters that we interact with are Angels. Imagine being in the field with the sheep the night that the Angel arrives and makes the announcement.
It is a powerful scene. It is a powerful message. “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Angels are powerful beings. With the knowledge of our Savior Jesus Christ we feel a particular weight. Hopefully that weight isn’t tinged by the nostalgia of knowing Christ for years. If you can, place yourself back in that field with the shepherds and hear for the very first time, “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace…”
