Kobe Bryant

Yesterday the news reported that the famed Basketball player Kobe Bryant had died in a helicopter accident. His 13 year old daughter was in the helicopter along with seven others. None survived. All day long the internet, social media, was rampant with stories, pictures, memorials, TV special reports, videos, prayers and of course arguments. This morning it is much the same. The volume of material; the reaction and outpouring of condolences is nothing short of jaw dropping. All within 24 hours.

David J Harris Jr reported on his Instagram feed that a close personal friend of Kobe’s had told him directly that Kobe had trusted Christ as his Savior. If that is true, that is good news. Of course we will leave that in God’s hands.

There are many things that we could and should learn from this event. Might I suggest this one. In Revelation 11 we are told about the two witnesses who prophesy for the Lord. They will be killed and their death will be celebrated by the whole world for three and a half days. But after that time they will live again and those who live upon the earth will have a great fear. The technology has been around for a long time for the whole world to “see” things but very few things have risen to the level of the whole world being interested in something, all together and shared with one another. The death of Kobe Bryant seems to be an event that instantaneously was known and created such a worldwide interest.

Please do not think that Kobe Bryant is one of the two witnesses. I am not saying that in the slightest bit. The jaw dropping nature of the reaction to his death is my point. The whole world celebrating the death of the Lord’s Witnesses in Revelation 11 isn’t far fetched. We have an example of the possibility in the news today. Pay attention, stay focused, be ready. The Lord could return today.
