Up North
Here up North we have experienced a few significant snow storms and winter isn’t quite over yet. More than a few of my friends on FaceBook and people I follow on Instagram have posted exactly how many days until spring. It’s close to 60 days. Other friends and people post a longing for summer time with pictures of boats on lakes or riding on horse back. These posts usually bring a smile to my face and a certain level of agreement. Even if you really like winter and snow-sports and warm fires to sit by and sip hot chocolate you understand those posts by people longing for the winter to end so they can get to something they anticipate will be enjoyable. We hardly ever see pictures of summertime in anticipation of swarms of mosquitoes.
As a follower of Christ, as of late, I have noticed more and more people talking about their hope of heaven. This world we live in with its deeply partisan politics and its violent social change movements and its assault on traditional values and its…well you get the idea. This world we live in is losing its luster for many and they are concentrating on something better. They have been in winter too long and desire summer. They tire of this world and long for home. What a glorious thought. What a warmth it brings. Heaven.
All that Scripture promises us and all that Scripture assures us of heaven truly can lift one from the doldrums of a dimming world in hopes of the brightness of a New Creation. Now we see in a mirror dimly but then face to face. That is what makes all the difference. Heaven is God’s home. Heaven is the home of God’s children. Jesus went to prepare a place for His own. Oh, beloved, if you are tired and weary get a higher view. Search the Scriptures for what it tells you and I about heaven. Look to the Psalms and see who God is because He is there. His presence lights the place up. Jesus will wipe away every tear. Heaven is a glorious place filled with His glory and grace.
